Emoji Challenge Activity
You will create your own emoji story. You will have to create a minimum of 3 emoji that when put together tell a story or say a phrase. Challenge yourself to include gradients, feathering, or transparency. Your emojis should have lots of different shapes. You CANNOT use an emoji that already exists. Must be school appropriate. You must include the following:
You will be graded on a difficulty rating based on your illustrator technique and attention to detail as well as your creativity. Download the worksheet to the right and put your emoji's on this. Make sure you put each emoji in it's own layer and name each one. Save your completed graphic as a AI (Illustrator file) and then export as a PNG file. Label it as last name + first name + period + emoji and save in your graphics folder. Submit the AI and the PNG files in a folder to Scales using AirDrop. |

Blend Tool: Line Art DesignA useful tool to have in your skill set is the Blend tool. It has so many uses to help you create versatile and detailed designs. Before we create a design piece, we will start by download the Blend Tool Worksheet.AI file on the right. Using the skills you were shown in class, you will look at the examples on the worksheet and create your own version. Use the tutorial to help you with the technique again while you are working. Once you have completed this, you can start sketching your design created using the Blend tool.
For this activity, we will working with lines...and only lines. How can you create a dynamic piece of art using only line work. You will need to have a theme that when you view the design, your audience should be able to immediately be bale to tell what the design is. Start by watching the 2 videos on the right. The first one demonstrates the Blend tool (W) and helps you create your line work easier and faster. The second video, shows one artist's process of who he creates a piece of line art. The size of your artboard will be based upon your needs for your piece of art. You will be required to include the following in your piece:
Be creative and push yourselves to create something with no shapes at all! Save your completed graphic as a AI (Illustrator file) and then export as a PNG file. Label it as last name + first name + period + Line Art and save in your graphics folder. Submit the AI and the PNG files in a folder to your teacher. |

Landscapes and Clipping Masks
Using your imagination, you will be creating a landscape in Illustrator. Use any type of style you would prefer, but make sure it is dynamic and colorful. You will need to use a minimum of 6 layers moving backwards. Keep in mind using depth perception, so that things that should be further away, get smaller/larger or brighter/darker. It does not need to be based on a land that exists in real life, be as creative as you want. You also must include 3 clipping masks in your drawing.
Look at the examples to the right to give you some ideas, but DO NOT COPY one of these. start with a sketch first to give you something to reference as you work. When you have finished your drawing, you will need to add a final clipping mask to the entire thing, using a shape (not a rectangle) of your choice. Think of this as a frame(s). You may use more than 1 clipping mask shape. Save your completed graphic as a AI (Illustrator file) and then export as a PNG file. Label it as last name + first name + period + Landscape and save in your graphics folder. Submit the AI and the PNG files in a folder to your teacher. |

Geo Filter Project
You have been hired by Snap Chat to add more Geo Filters to their app for the Raleigh area. You will need to design 2 separate filters for 1 place. Be creative!! Start by downloading the Geofilter template found on the right. Please make sure that what you are designing is school appropriate imagery and/or doesn't violate someone's copyright! Before you can start your digital designs, you will need to sketch out your ideas first.
You can use pictures as a reference, but it shouldn't just be an exact copy of the original image. Use different parts of different pictures. Save as BOTH an Illustrator file (.AI) and export a copy as a .PNG file. You will turn in the .PNG to Scales. *** You will be graded on the complexity and creativity of your filter. If you finish significantly early, then your grade will suffer. As you work, save your project as a .ai and name it lastname + firstname + period # + geofilter.ai. When you are finished, save it as a PNG with the same name and submit it to Scales via Air Drop. Remember to add a PNG copy to your portfolio folder! Make sure you review the rubric for this project to make sure you aren't going to lose any points! |

Flat Design Project
You will be creating a poster in flat design that represents who you are as a person. Chose things that show what you are interested in, what you do, and even how you look/dress.
You will need to chose a topic to create a design completely in flat design. You can do real world objects, a text layout, etc...It must be done in flat design colors, see the cheat sheet for help with this. This should be 1500 x 2000 wide Pixels. As you work, save your project as a .ai and name it lastname + firstname + period # + Flat Design.ai. When you are finished, save it as a PNG with the same name and submit both files in a folder to Scales via Air Drop. Remember to add a PNG copy to your portfolio folder! Long Shadow Directions: 1.
